The short version
SayItHere has no accounts, no analytics, and no tracking. We do not collect, store, or share any personal data. The app makes two kinds of network requests: an anonymous location lookup to find nearby places (Live Mode only), and downloads of phrase content from GitHub to stay current. An anonymous flag may also sync via your private iCloud to preserve your access across devices. No personally identifiable information is involved in any of these.
Location data
SayItHere requests access to your device's location in order to detect nearby places (such as cafés, restaurants, and hotels) and suggest relevant phrases for that context in your chosen language.
- Live Mode sends your approximate coordinates to the OpenStreetMap Overpass API to find nearby places — this is the only time your location leaves your device
- No personally identifiable information is included in this request
- Location is only accessed when you actively use Live Mode
- We never store, log, or transmit a history of your locations
- You can revoke location access at any time in iOS Settings
Phrase data updates
SayItHere downloads updated phrase content from GitHub to keep vocabulary current without requiring an app update. Only phrase files are downloaded — no user data, device information, or identifiers are sent during this process.
Third-party services
SayItHere connects to two third-party services:
- OpenStreetMap Overpass API — used by Live Mode to find places near your location. Your approximate coordinates are sent as part of this request. Subject to the OpenStreetMap Privacy Policy.
- GitHub — used to download updated phrase content. No user data is sent. Subject to the GitHub Privacy Policy.
Neither service receives any personally identifiable information from SayItHere.
Data we do not collect
- No names, email addresses, or personal identifiers
- No usage analytics or behavioural tracking
- No crash reporting sent off-device
- No advertising identifiers
- No purchase or payment information
- No contacts, photos, or other personal content
Data stored on your device
SayItHere stores the following information locally on your device, using iOS standard storage:
- Your saved favourite phrases
- Your recently viewed scenarios
- Your app settings (voice preference, speech speed)
- A cached copy of phrase data for offline use
iCloud sync
SayItHere uses Apple's iCloud Key-Value Storage to sync an anonymous entitlement flag across your devices. This flag records whether you installed the app during the free launch period, so your access is preserved if you reinstall or switch to a new iPhone.
- The flag is a single true/false value — no names, identifiers, or usage data
- It is stored in your own private iCloud account, not on our servers
- We cannot read it, access it, or link it to you in any way
- You can disable iCloud sync in iOS Settings → Apple Account → iCloud → SayItHere
Children's privacy
SayItHere does not knowingly collect any data from anyone, including children under 13. The app contains no user accounts, no forms, and no data submission of any kind.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, we will update the date at the top of this page. Any changes will maintain the same commitment to minimal data practices.
